This book is loosely based on a series of talks I did with Paul McIntyre when he was part of the Chris Wisbey's Sunday radio show at the ABC which concentrated on Tasmanian History. Much of the information is largely drawn from stories in the newspapers of the day. The topics dealt with reflect my interest in them.

There are many other interesting chapters that could be written about early Hobart, such as the Beaumaris Zoo, the Botanical Gardens and the Hobart Bridge but one has to finish somewhere.
